Charities
The Charity group at Forsters has long experience of advising not-for-profit organisations, their trustees and funders. Our clients include start-up charities – making their first approach to the Charity Commission – as well as historic charities which have been in operation for centuries. The client base ranges widely across the voluntary sector and includes religious, educational and arts charities. Forsters’ well known property expertise has also enabled us to develop a particular skill in working with charities and not-for-profit organisations with significant real estate assets or other property needs.
Particular areas of advice:
- We advise wealthy donors on the creation of grant-making trusts as vehicles for individual or family philanthropy.
- We assist charity trustees in complying with their legal duties. including the full implications of the Charities Act 2006.
- Choice of structure: should your charity be a trust, a company, a charitable incorporated organisation?
- Credit Crunch: in recent months we have been involved with advising charities on the problems arising from the recession.
- Employment: problems with staff or volunteers?
- Commercial: we advise on funding agreements and other aspects of the commercial activities of charities and their trading companies.
- Property: our real estate advice ranges from the management of large portfolios of investment properties to sales, acquisitions and relocations of charities.
