Family & Wealth Forum
Welcome to the home page of the Forsters Family & Wealth Forum.
The Panel members are Charles Pike of the private client group and Ann Northover, head of family department and Shona Alexander, partner of the family department.
The Family & Wealth Forum was established recently to provide a forum for addressing current issues that affect private wealth and family advisers. We will host regular early evening meetings at least four times a year at our offices in Mayfair. The atmosphere is relaxed yet thought provoking. A meeting takes the form of a short presentation by the Panel in a question and answer style during which further questions and comments from the floor are welcomed.
The aim is to provoke debate and draw on the knowledge and skills of our members and to conclude the session with practical advice. The meeting closes with drinks and the chance to meet old and new contacts. We also look forward to welcoming presentations by other members of the Family & Wealth Forum at future meetings.
The next meeting "Private Wealth - The Latest" will be held at our offices at 31 Hill Street, W1J 5LS on Tuesday 29 May 2012 starting at 5.15pm (with registration from 5.00pm) and will be followed by drinks. If you would like to attend this or future events please contact functions@forsters.co.uk or your usual Forsters contact. |
The last meeting ("Trusting in Financial Structures - or have Trusts had their Day?") took place on 10 November 2011 when the following topics were discussed and lively debate ensued:
- An update on charity law by Forsters' Charles Pike and resident non domiciliary issues.
- Trusts v family company structures for wealth preservation, with a view to what happens in the family courts.
- Sham trusts and piercing the corporate veil.
- Ben Hashem v Al Shayif [2008] EWHC 2380 (Fam); [2009] 1 F.L.R. 115; [2008] Fam. Law 1179
- Everclear (BVI) v Agrest and Kremen [2010] EWHC 3091 (Fam); [2011] 2 F.L.R. 490; [2011] Fam. Law 568
- Guidance for trustees where a beneficiary is involved in family proceedings.
- Landmark Supreme Court decision in case of Jones v Kernott [2011] UKSC 53 9 November 2011- on joint ownership of property, and the clear indication that the court will impute rather than just infer the parties' intentions regarding joint ownership where they feel it is necessary to achieve fairness.
