Thomas Mawson

Thomas is an Associate who works in on our Private Client Team. He trained with Forsters joining in September 2018.

What departments did you spend your vacation scheme in?

Private Client and Commercial Real Estate.

What sort of work were you given and what did you gain from your experience?

I was given a wide range of work by trainees, solicitors and partners and gained an appreciation of the tasks undertaken by trainees as well as the broad and varied work undertaken by the firm. It was interesting to see aspects of the law that I had learnt about on the GDL in practice and experience the contrast between the two departments.

What was the highlight of the vacation scheme for you?

As well as gaining a real feel for life at the firm, I particularly enjoyed seeing the human focus of the law, putting legal concepts into context and seeing its real-life applications.

Did the scheme meet your expectations? Did you feel that you gained a real insight into life as a trainee at the firm?

Yes, on both fronts. The scheme was an excellent way of finding out what it would be like to be a trainee at Forsters. It gave me the experience of two departments, an introduction to the others through the departmental presentations that were put on for us, interesting, intellectually stimulating, trainee-level work, and the impression that everyone is very supportive of each other. It is also showed me that everything the website says about the firm having a friendly working environment and a healthy work/life balance is absolutely true!
