Jonathan Lyness
Associate, FamilyJonny advises clients on the full spectrum of private family law matters.
His financial practice includes advising on the consequences of divorce and the dissolution of civil partnerships; provision for children of unmarried parents; and property disputes between unmarried cohabitants. Many of his cases involve complex corporate structures, trust interests and offshore assets.
Jonny also acts for parents in children disputes, including in relation to child arrangements, schooling and relocation (both domestic and international). He has experience of high-conflict cases and those involving allegations of parental alienation, sexual abuse and alcohol and drug misuse.
As well as advising on matters arising from the breakdown of relationships, Jonny also advises on pre- and post-nuptial and civil partnership agreements, Family Law Act injunctions and surrogacy.
Clients value Jonny's pragmatic approach and eye for detail. While he endeavours to resolve matters constructively where possible, he adopts a robust approach to safeguard clients' interests where appropriate.
Jonny has written articles for publications including Spear’s, Professional Advisor and Attitude. He also works with charities supporting LGBTQ families and those involved in surrogacy arrangements.
He read Law at Jesus College, Oxford, after which he was awarded a distinction in his LPC. Jonny spent a year at a Magic Circle law firm before joining Forsters as a Trainee in 2016 and qualifying in 2018.
