Shabana is an associate barrister in the Family team. She specialises in advising clients dealing with relationship breakdown on divorce, financial relief (cohabitation, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements) and private law children matters.
Her experience in the financial services sector has informed her approach to financial cases, often involving business assets, trusts and family wealth. She addresses her client’s immediate and longer term priorities often instructing and liaising with other advisors to provide clear, practical and well-rounded advice dealing with all aspects of financial remedies.
While an advocate of settling child arrangement disputes by agreement, having trained as a barrister she has the experience to take cases to court where required. Shabana has expertise in international private children law matters involving surrogacy, adoption, relocation of/arrangements for children in jurisdictions including the United States and the Middle East.
Having advised a number of high profile clients, Shabana is accustomed to dealing with privacy issues arising on divorce in financial and private children law cases.
Shabana is regularly instructed to advise wealthy individuals and trusts on practical steps to safeguard assets including, but not limited to, settling cohabitation agreements, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements.
She also lectures on the law on marriage and private law children issues following separation and matrimonial breakdown, with a particular expertise in Islamic family law issues. She regularly advises in complex matters involving the Middle East, and is involved in research for the development of international children law.
Shabana was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2014 and spent three years at Charles Russell Speechlys before joining Forsters in 2019.
Shabana speaks fluent Punjabi and Urdu.
