Are things looking up for retail?

Consumer confidence is up by two points in August, reported by the Times (behind paywall) and This is Money, and is at its strongest level since Christmas. This is despite a surprise increase in inflation (reportedly (by BBC) due to high air fares and food prices) and concerns about potential tax increases on the horizon (also reported by BBC).
If the amount of transactions we, in the Forsters’ retail team, have seen in the last month is anything to go by, it seems retailers are feeling optimistic as well. And this is corroborated by Green Street News, who recently reported that whilst strong retail investment over the past few years has been largely bolstered by retail warehouses and supermarkets, the wider retail sector is now attracting more attention, including shopping centres and retail parks.
