Jo Edwards comments on new statistics showing the record waiting time for couples to get divorced

Head of Family, Jo Edwards’ comments on the record long 59 week waiting period for couples to get divorced were published in the Law Society Gazette. 

Jo highlighted that legal aid cuts, a lack of funding for signposting alternatives to court and court closures have caused significant backlogs and increased pressure on a system that is almost at breaking point (a topic about which Jo gave evidence to a parliamentary committee on 11 June, with suggestions about how the system may be improved).
