Lucy Barber writes for The Sunday Times

Head of Residential Property, Lucy Barber, answers a reader's question in The Sunday Times's 'Home Help Q&A' regarding issues surrounding acquiring the freehold on a block of flats with a long term lease.

Question: I live in a block of six flats with 999-year leases. When the block was completed, the developer was contracted to sell the freehold to the leaseholders’ management company. He did not do this, departed to Ireland and cannot be contacted. The limited company was taken over by the government solicitor. Does the latter have to offer the freehold to us? How do we go about acquiring it?
