Forsters announces charity partnership with the Children’s Book Project to help tackle book poverty

Forsters is delighted to announce that the Children’s Book Project has been selected by our people as our new charity partner.

Research from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has shown that reading for pleasure is a significant indicator of a child’s future outcomes, yet more than a million children in the UK don’t own a book of their own. The Children’s Book Project is working to change this by collecting pre-loved books and distributing them to children through primary schools in areas of high deprivation, food banks, women’s refuges and organisations supporting children with a parent in prison.

As a firm, we are committed to supporting the community around us and creating opportunities for young people. The Children’s Book Project’s work closely aligns with our responsible business priorities, supporting social mobility by developing vital literacy skills, while also promoting sustainability by giving pre-loved books a new home.

Over the course of the partnership, Forsters colleagues will have opportunities to support the Children’s Book Project, through fundraising, volunteering, book donations and pro bono support. Alongside this practical support, we hope to use our partnership to raise awareness of book poverty and the Children’s Book Project’s work, helping more children to experience the benefits and enjoyment that books can bring.

We look forward to working with the Children’s Book Project and seeing the impact we can have together.

“We’re delighted to be supporting the Children’s Book Project, a charity voted for by our people and one whose mission strongly resonates with our commitment to social mobility. We’re looking forward to building a meaningful partnership that helps more children experience the opportunities and enjoyment that access to books can bring.” – Jeremy Robertson, Partner and Charity Committee Co-lead

“We are thrilled to have been chosen by Forsters to be their new charity partner. It is a sad reality that over one million children in the UK do not have their own books, which in turn is a fundamental barrier to opportunities later in life. The demand for our work is growing, the supply of books is strong and we need partners like Forsters who can support our ability to expand our operations and send more books on new adventures.” – Liberty Venn, Founder and CEO of the Children’s Book Project
