Retail

Escalators transport people in a busy shopping mall. Shoppers, some blurred from motion, navigate levels surrounded by sleek glass and modern architecture, creating a bustling, dynamic atmosphere.

The UK retail sector has evolved rapidly, from the way in which consumers shop to the influence of online shopping. Both the changing nature of the high street and the wider retail environment is affecting the use, financial viability and location of pure retail assets.

With our dedicated Retail team, we advise a wide range of clients who own, invest or develop real estate assets within the retail and leisure sectors, and have an extensive track record of advising these clients – particularly on large-scale and complex mixed-use developments incorporating residential, leisure and restaurant elements. Having over 50 years’ experience, we’re particularly knowledgeable in advising shopping centre and retail park owners and operators, where we act as principal advisers on several significant shopping centre schemes across England.

Being in the heart of the sector, we’ve been involved in drafting and negotiating turnover rent leases through various economic cycles, so are well equipped to guide you through any market conditions. Whoever the client and whatever the conditions, commerciality is at the core of our advice and we use pragmatic solutions to provide our clients with a solid foundation to their overall investment strategy and approach.

Working across the entire property lifecycle, we’re able to call upon colleagues from our specialist teams including Real Estate Disputes, Construction, Planning and Tax. This allows us to draft upon a variety of skill sets to progress schemes from the planning stage all the way through to negotiating leases with anchor tenants or seeing owner occupiers operate the building.

If you would like to hear how we can help you with your retail assets, get in touch with our dedicated team.
